The Story of MVUU
We begin 2025 amid the dust and heat of many narratives. Like being caught in a dust devil crossing the Sonora, there is a confusing swirl of wind, grit, and detritus in the air turning us around and confusing us with reports, stories, and even some tall tales about what is about to happen here in our country.
The reality is: we choose the story we tell. Based on MVUU’s mission and purpose, Engage ~ Love ~ Transform, we choose who we are and how we will act no matter what comes. We engage a reality that so many have known for so long: our country is not what we thought it was. We love in response, because our faith tells us that this is the most sacred form of relationship. And through our engagement of what is real and growing loving relationships, we transform ourselves and our world.
At MVUU this is the beginning, middle, and end of our story, and all this month we will be telling our story in various ways.
January 6, “The Story of Joy”
Rev. Matthew and Alex Stucky
Bring all your unwanted stuff and pile it up on our altar as we use Marie Kondo’s question, “Does it spark joy?” to tell the story of our choice.
January 12, “The Story of Now”
Rev. Matthew & the MVUU Board
Our MVUU Board joins in leading our service to share where MVUU is today and where they will be leading us tomorrow, by telling our story of now.
January 19, “The Story of Love”
George Murphy & Lee Hickey
Full Joys & Sorrows Ritual
This contemplative service offers a still point in the midst of the swirling, whirling stories and events of 2025.
January 19, “Don’t Fear the Future” Vigil
5:30-6:30pm
On the cusp of the Inauguration of our US executive administration, we will gather out front of our church house for a candle lit vigil, to openly affirm we will engage, love, and transform the future.
January 26, “The Story of UUs”
Rev. Matthew & Maria Menconi
New Member Sunday
We tell the story of Unitarian Universalists, our story, as we prepare the story of MVUU.
We welcome you to our Sunday Services whether in our sanctuary, on Zoom, or on our YouTube channel. Here you might sing a few hymns, listen to our choir—and maybe even tap your foot to our band. A reflection or sermon is usually delivered by our minister, one of our members, or a guest speaker. Maybe you’ll come on a Sunday that is interactive or when members present readings and choral selections. Another Sunday may include a celebration of a life event or be devoted to a justice issue. You might catch a humorous enactment expressing one of our values. In other words, no two Sundays are the same at MVUU.
What is the same is that You Are Welcome here.
All ages are welcome: Children and youth may attend the entire Sunday service or participate in age-specific programming. We provide children’s activities with background checked volunteers every Sunday for our community members ages 2-10.
Wear what you please: At MVUU you’ll see casual clothes, shorts and jeans, and maybe even skirts and neckties.
Our building is accessible: We can accommodate wheelchairs, canes, and walkers. We have assistive listening devices. Our restrooms are accessible, family-friendly, and gender neutral.
Introduce yourself if comfortable: We invite visitors to introduce themselves so that people in the congregation can welcome you. Participation is always optional!
Stay for Coffee Hour: We want to meet you, so stick around. Coffee Hour is practically a UU ritual where we gather casually and make connections in an informal atmosphere. Stay for a coffee, linger on the garden patio, or play on the swing-set.
