Not Without Dust and Heat
An Installation Celebration of Shared Ministry
Rev. Matthew Funke Crary will be installed at Mountain Vista UU Congregation as their settled minister on the weekend of April 20 & 21, 2024. Join them for one or all of the following events:
Installation Social Justice Project: Baja 4 River Clean Up
April 20 | 9am-11am | Santa Cruz River- 802 N. Riverside Dr
Justice. Joy. Liberation
Let’s put on our Justice Warrior hats and lots of sunblock to spend the day with Rev Matthew at the Santa Cruz River to play, learn, and clean. We will be alongside our friends from The Sonoran Institute, The Tucson Audubon Society and Tucson Clean and Beautiful! Folks of all ages will find a way to participate as we learn more about the Santa Cruz River and then beautify the surrounding area by picking up trash. Families are especially welcome.
Our clean-up spot will have a few restrooms, paved sidewalks, easy river access, and limited seating available. We are hoping to provide some quick breakfast items and refreshments for all to enjoy, but feel free to bring your own.
Here are some recommendations as you prepare to participate with us: Bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottles, work gloves, a chair/blanket to rest on, and snacks. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that you can get dirty and closed toed shoes.
Please RSVP if you would like to attend so we have a headcount. This is extremely helpful so that we can have enough food and supplies for everyone!
Chili Feed and Dance Party
April 20 | 6:00pm | MVUU
After a morning of working along the river, we will put on our fancy boots and clean jeans and refuel with a potluck chili feed. We will have chili, cornbread, and desserts, all contributed by the congregation, so all of you aficionados of hearty fare, dig out your most tasty recipes! We will need around 10 large (6-quart) crock pots of chili (vegetarian welcome), 10 large (9×13”) pans of cornbread, and 10 desserts, each enough to serve 10 hungry people. Signups will be put out towards early March for all 3 categories. We also will need a few washtubs to use to hold ice for the nonalcoholic drinks that will be offered.
Through the meal and after, there will be live music and dancing in the sanctuary. Come one, come all!
Joel Yelland is planning the chili feed and Chris Tackett is in charge of the entertainment.
Sunday Morning Service
April 21 | 10:30am | MVUU
On Sunday morning, we welcome the Rev. Rod Richards as our guest preacher. Rev. Rod was a member of MVUU before he started into the ministry and joins us now after decades of service, first to Sky Island UU and now from the UUs of San Luis Obispo.
Installation Ceremony and Catered Dinner
April 21 | 3:30pm | MVUU
Rev. Matthew will be installed as our settled minister. Rev. Elizabeth Nguyen will be preaching, and several of Rev. Matthew’s ministerial colleagues will participate in the ceremony.
The MVUU Installation Team, led by Anne Tatum, will host the Installation Ceremony assembly. The team will also coordinate a dinner reception to follow in the Oasis and on the Patio.
Ministers and ceremony participants will gather in the Mesquite Room by 3 p.m., prior to the Installation. Rev. Bob Klein, a member at MVUU, will be available to assist and welcome clergy.
